FAQ
How strong is Hicat® cat furniture?
Our cat furniture is load tested to extreme weights to make sure it is safe. For example our Freestanding Fatcat has been tested to loads in excess of 100kg (the equivalent of 20 average cats), so we are extremely confident in our cat furniture’s durability and build quality.
What is the core material used in Hicat® cat furniture?
We use laminated cores made from recycled spiral bound fibre board (cardboard tubes) for the construction of our cat furniture units. These are the same tubes that are used on building sites to form concrete columns. The latex backed coir is then bonded to the tube to create an ultra-durable, very resistant piece of furniture your favourite feline(s) will enjoy every day.
How durable are the finishes?
Cats climbing and playing on our cat furniture will eventually leave a trace on the natural coir and the external appearance will show wear and tear. This is particularly if your cat gets their claws in to it and uses it as their daily scratcher.
If you want to prolong the longevity of your Hicat®, we advise having an alternative scratching option available adjacent to your unit to try and wean your cat’s scratching attention away from it. This will help maximise the lifespan of your cat furniture.
With the right scratching options in place you might be able to beat the record for the longest serving Hicat®, which currently stands as 13 years.
NOTE: Failing that, your cat furniture can be reupholstered as required. Simply send us an email to explore your options.
